About Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), commonly referred to as clinical depression, is a mental health condition which affects your thoughts, feelings and behavior. MDD has a significant impact on the lives of people who experience it and can make day-to-day activities difficult.

About Major Depressive Disorder

In recent years, rates of depression have risen, with approximately 300 million people worldwide are living with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD),¹ making it one of the most common, disabling and potentially fatal of all medical conditions.

Large-scale research studies have found that currently available antidepressant medicines are not effective enough for many people. These drugs fail to reduce depression symptoms in many people and, even for those who benefit from them, they take weeks to work and mood and anxiety symptoms often remain. They also have side effects which can include sexual dysfunction and weight gain.

New treatment options are needed for people with MDD.

Major Depressive Disorder with Anxious Distress

Depression and anxiety are different conditions, but they commonly occur together and may have similar treatments.

Adults diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) often experience symptoms of anxiety and nervousness during episodes of depression, such as poor concentration, feeling tense, restlessness, and feelings that something bad will happen or that they will lose control. This is known as Anxious Distress.

People with MDD and significant anxiety tend to have more intense depressive symptoms, more difficulty with normal activities, and are less likely to respond to currently available therapies for MDD.

This study will include people diagnosed with MDD, with or without Anxious Distress.
